FAQs
These questions are designed to help customers understand the early stages of a commercial kitchen project before speaking to YCE.
Whether you need a new kitchen design, help reusing existing equipment, a one-off installation or a full project, YCE can help turn the first conversation into a practical next step.

Quick answers
Commercial kitchen design
Yes. YCE can help from the first layout idea through to a more detailed kitchen plan, equipment specification, service requirements and installation route. The design is shaped around the menu, building, team, service style and budget.
No. Drawings are helpful, but they are not essential for the first conversation. Photos, a rough sketch, an equipment list, a menu, a problem you are trying to solve or a basic project brief are enough to start.
Yes. YCE can prepare CAD layouts and 3D visuals where they will help the client, contractor or wider project team understand the space before equipment is ordered or installation begins.
A good design is not just about fitting equipment into a room. It should support safe workflow, preparation, cooking, wash-up, refrigeration, storage, cleaning, staff movement, service speed and future maintenance access.
Clean, Service & Test
Clean, Service & Test is YCE’s process for taking existing catering equipment, cleaning it properly, servicing it and testing it at the YCE facility in York. It helps clients understand whether equipment is suitable to reuse, store, relocate or replace.
Some equipment still has useful life left. Cleaning, servicing and testing can save project cost, reduce waste and prevent good equipment being sent to landfill unnecessarily. YCE will still advise replacement where reuse is not practical or reliable.
Often, yes. YCE can review existing equipment as part of the project, check its condition and decide whether it should be reused in the new layout, held as backup equipment, moved elsewhere in the estate or responsibly disposed of.
Yes. It can be particularly useful where there is an estate of equipment across several sites. It gives operators a clearer view of what they already own and can help avoid unnecessary new purchases.
Installation
Yes. YCE can supply and install commercial catering equipment as part of a full project, refurbishment, replacement programme or one-off installation.
Yes. If you only need one item installed, YCE can still help. This can include planning access, delivery, positioning, connection requirements, commissioning and handover.
Useful information includes site address, access restrictions, delivery route, floor level, doorway widths, lift access, power, gas, water, waste, extraction details, photos, drawings and the required installation date.
Yes. YCE regularly works alongside main contractors, electricians, plumbers, ventilation specialists, flooring teams and client project managers to help keep the kitchen installation aligned with the wider programme.
Aftercare
Yes. YCE can help with service, maintenance, replacement equipment, asset reviews, refurbishment planning and advice when the kitchen needs to change in the future.
Where equipment is supplied through YCE, the team can help customers understand warranty information and the correct route for service or manufacturer support.
Yes. The team can consider age, condition, parts availability, reliability, running cost and project plans before advising whether repair, refurbishment, reuse or replacement is the better route.
Share the basics of the project: what you are trying to achieve, the site, the timescale and any existing drawings, photos or equipment information.
YCE will help turn the enquiry into a clearer brief, whether that means a design review, equipment specification, Clean, Service & Test review, site survey or installation plan.
Once the scope is agreed, the team can coordinate supply, installation, commissioning, project communication and handover around the live programme.
After completion, YCE can continue to help with maintenance, equipment changes, reuse planning, asset management and future refurbishments.
